Buffalo Check Clutch Bag

on December 21, 2018

Whether you need a last minute gift or want a new way to rock the plaid, this buffalo check clutch bag is a great project to up your style game!

Guess what?!? I finished finals, worked some crazy days back to back and can’t figure out what to do with myself. I guess that is part of not having a regular schedule and also trying to manage all the things – School, work, emotions of tiny humans… also attempting to craft/create occasionally. Up until finals any free time I had was spent studying. Now? I’m baking and trying to get through all the sewing projects that I have piled up.

I’m also attempting to get in full Christmas mode. It’s not exactly working but I’m trying. One of my favorite things to make for friends are these cute personalized clutches. I source the blanks from the Target Dollar Spot and use my Cricut Explore Air 2 to customize with fun sayings, or in this case… A BUFFALO! They work great to hold tablets, notebooks, wallets, random card games… yeah. All the things

Orange Cranberry Sugar Cookie Bars

on December 3, 2018

These Orange Cranberry Sugar Cookie bars with orange cream cheese frosting are a delight for all seasons and holiday gatherings.

Orange Cranberry Sugar Cookie Bar

Say hello to my new friend! Pardon the photo quality – I was just so excited and didn’t really take a ton of pictures of it in a professional setting… or any at all.

kitchenaid - stand mixer - ice blue

I finally bought myself a Kitchenaid mixer and ya’ll…. LIFE CHANGING. Seriously though. The things I hate doing – like creaming butter and sugar, making cream cheese frosting and whipping egg whites… I don’t have to do anymore! It doesn’t have a name or gender yet, but I figure you guys can give me some suggestions.

Make It: Sassy Christmas Clutch with Cricut

Okay, so tis’ the season right? I for one am all about the rich chocolates and caramels and of course peppermint is my absolute favorite flavor profile. I am seriously the person that drinks Peppermint mocha year round. Fight me on it. Okay, so why doesn’t this have any of those things in them? I honestly don’t know. I just wanted to experiment with some lighter seasonal flavors. I will say that they turned out delicious and my anatomy class (whom I bring all my baking to these days) RAVED about them.

Orange Cranberry Sugar Cookie Bar

These Orange Cranberry Sugar Cookie Bars are great for bake sales, cookie exchanges and any number of things. I like that they’re easier to cut into at the end instead of trying to measure out or scoop cookies to be the right shape.

DIY Wooden Spoon Holiday Gift

on November 30, 2018

Add a touch of home this holiday season with a DIY Wooden Spoon holiday gift! Any easy project to spruce up a kitchen or give to teachers, friends, and coworkers!

Hi! I’ve missed you guys! I’m not sure if you’d be interested in all of the goings on of me being in school (of which there are a lot). And I’ll spare you the wonderment that was dissecting a cows eye (I’m pretty sure I was the only one who thought how awesome it was). I do however want to talk about the upcoming holidays.

Wood Burned Spoon, DIY, Holiday Gift - feature

Here’s the thing. I am a STAUNCH believer in no Christmas until after Thanksgiving gets its due. Ya’ll, I have run out of stores yelling (unless I actually had to be in there for something and not just window shop) for playing holiday music before its time. I avoid Michaels and JoAnn’s and Hobby Lobby like the plague. Ask anyone. This year though… I put up my tree early. I was a little disappointed in myself if I’m being completely honest with myself but I’m still sure it was the right thing to do.

MAKE IT: DIY Stamped Holiday Napkins

Here’s the thing, for the first time in 4-ish years, I’m not hosting a Friendsgiving. I’m not baking like a crazy person or cooking for a bunch of people or anything like that. I’m not doing anything. I just don’t have the time or the emotional bandwidth to deal with it all at the moment. A lot of my friends are in different places in their lives (and locations) and I didn’t want to put it on myself do deal with choosing a date and planning and so on.

Wood Burned Spoon, DIY, Holiday Gift

So, I’m moving on to the season of giving, because giving is what I like to do. AND there’s definitely more time to plan right now. I’m not sure how many of you out there deal with seasonal depression, but I’m out here with you. One of the things that helps me is making things for others. I’ve been baking a lot more to give to my anatomy class and attempting to create (read- making lists of things I want to make). I also decided to haul out the woodburner because… why not? These Custom Holiday spoons are my current fave when it comes to gifting. I’m hoping to plan a cookie party here in the near future and think these would be great to give as a gift to all my pals…. so now that these are done… anyone got a cookie recipe they like?

Time: 30 minutes or less
Cost: $20 or less – I got my spoons for a dollar each and the wood burner was $15

The Worst Witch inspired Drop Stitch Scarf

on October 27, 2018

Get ready for your first day at Miss Cackles Academy with a The Worst Witch inspired Drop Stitch Scarf! Knit with chunky yarn and big needles, this scarf is an excellent weekend project!

…. Climbs out from under a rock….Hi! Hey! I missed you! I know I promised that this blog wouldn’t go anywhere but honestly, I’ve been overwhelmed. The good news is, I can now tell you every single bone in your body, the parts of those bones and the muscles attached to them. I’m both overwhelmed and feeling super educated.

the worst witch - scarf pattern - free knitting

Speaking of school… Have you guys watched The Worst Witch on Netflix? I’ve been a bit in love with Mildred – yes, she makes really dumb decisions but her heart is in the right place! I also think I’m pretty much Maude Spellbody – I have a low confidence in my own ability but I’m actually pretty smart (things I’ve learned in school!) and fiercely loyal and defensive of people I love. So yeah, The Worst Witch.

MAKE IT: Crochet Haunted Mansion Pillow

One of my favorite scenes in the show though, is when Mildred arrives at the school for the first time in her uniform. Everything is new and she’s maybe a bit uncoordinated. It definitely gives me first day of school vibes! At this point, I fell in love with her scarf – the one her mother made that definitely reminds me of some of my first knitting projects – and the way she defended it from Ethel because her mother worked so hard to make it.

MAKE IT: DIY Harry Potter Mini-Notebooks

I made this scarf a year ago and did all the things but I got super behind and forgot about it. Its knitted in a simple garter stitch (knit) with drop stitches every so often – check out the pattern- and uses a chunky yarn so it knits up super quick!

Human Anatomy Essential Supplies

on September 23, 2018

As we enter into the really hard classes portion of my college 2.0 career, I figured I’d share with you guys what I’m using this year. I’m what is considered a “non-traditional student”. What that means is that I’m not a spring chicken and I’m not taking a full course load. I work while I’m not in class and I somehow manage to get my homework and studying in (I’m still not exactly sure how I managed that last semester). It also means that I’m working towards a second degree that is not related to my first (music industry). This semester I’m taking Human Anatomy- which is my first nursing pre-rec that actually matters so I’m trying to prep as much as possible. In this list, you’ll find some staples – like my backpack and the specific pens I’ll be using – to some Human Anatomy specific stuff that are essential for anyone taking the class.

I’m thinking of writing a post about why I decided to go back to school and all that jazz but there is a part of me that is not quite ready to do that. If that’s something you have experience with or are interested in yourself, drop me a line in the comments!

Human Anatomy Essentials

Human Anatomy essential supplies

I’m going to start off with the actual anatomy stuff because thats probably the most important. Human Anatomy is hard. Even if you have the most amazing teacher, its hard. It’s a lot of memorization and learning random parts of the body that you’re going to need to remember and point out. There’s going to be a lot of drawing and a lot of late night studying – thats just what it is. Here are some things that I’m using this year to help myself through that.

Crash Course Anatomy Poster ($12) – Hank Green (of the Vlog Brothers) created an amazing youtube channel called Crash Course and it’s probably a huge reason why I did well in GOB Chemistry. They have a shop associated with the channel and of course I had to order this awesome poster. Of course –  it doesn’t hurt that it is super cute!

Anatomy and Physiology FlashCards ($17) – I learned in Chemistry that I am not the best at drawing intricate things. It take a lot of practice and honestly, if my grade is dependent on it, I’m bringing in the professionals. These flashcards are also great for if you’re taking physiology or a combined A&P.

Anatomy Coloring Book ($17) – If you’re a person that learns by doing and are very tactile, this coloring book is a great resource. Some advice before starting – Have a plan when you color things in – like keep similar tissues in similar colors or shades. This helps you get a better understanding of how things work together. You’re probably going to want a good set of colored pencils or gel pens – but those aren’t on the list.

Anatomy & Physiology Super Review ($10) I cannot tell you how much time this book has saved me. The chapters in Anatomy books are long and honestly, I just need things condensed into “Need to Know” sections. This book has been a life saver! Also, at $10 for the book, it’s a great deal and ridiculously helpful.

Skull Model ($45) Yep. The first major thing you’ll be learning is the bones. Specifically the skull. If you are the kind of person who likes to have your anatomical model to yourself and available all the time, this ones for you. Also, it makes a really cool Halloween decoration or talking piece. Check here for more models if the mood strikes.

Frixion Pens ($10)You guys!!! These are hands down, my favorite pens. Why? They’re gel pens so they write great AND they’re erasable!!!! How awesome is that! I got the big pack of lots of colors for labeling and because I like to take my notes in different colors each day.

Noise Canceling Headphones ($50+) – I am an earbuds kinda girl. I like that they’re easy to cart around and its no big deal if I lose them. BUT the mom I work for introduced me to the wonders of these suckers while studying and my life has been forever changed.

A cute pencil bag ($12) – You can totally go to Target and get a cute Yoobi one from there or really any kind. I personally just fell in love with this Rifle Paper pencil bag and HAD to have it. And of course it matches my laptop case.

All the notebooks ($0.50 +) – I’m probably a total weirdo but I only like writing in 1 subject notebooks. They’re easy on the wrist and ridiculously cheap. College rule all the way.

Post-it Notes, Page tabs and a Cute Holder Post-its are my jam! They’re great for marking pages in books (I rent mine from amazon) and keeping the notes without damaging the book. And the cute holder – I like cute things okay!?!

S’well Water Bottle ($30) – Yes. I know that is a lot to pay for a water bottle, but I drop mine on the regular and this is legit the only one that hasn’t broken on me and still manages to help save the environment. It is also really important to not get dehydrated while doing all the studying. Also, it comes in a TON of colors.

Meal Prep Bento Boxes ($30 for a set of 3) – Since I have breaks in between classes this year and am also trying to save some moolah, I’ve been trying to pack my lunch a lot. It’s also great to have the healthier option on hand instead of getting hungry then just grabbing food trucks. These glass bento boxes have partitions, are easy to clean AND they’re super sturdy. I seriously don’t worry about them staining and they’re super easy to customize if you want some more color in your life!

I’m sure there are a ton more things, but these are my essentials for the semester. Aside from my trusty Back Pack, I’m pretty sure I’m ready. If you’re back to school for the second or third rodeo, hit me up! How are you coping?

DIY Harry Potter Mini-Notebooks

on August 28, 2018

Create these magical gold foil DIY Harry Potter mini notebooks with a few easy steps! Great for back to school, parties and more!

A few years ago, I watched some videos on youtube about gold foiling and decided it would be a thing that I tried. I spent a decent amount of money and bought all the things. Tried it once, it didn’t turn out like the videos told me they would and then I never touched it again. I kind of have craft ADD sometimes – can you tell?

Hogwarts Inspired House Mini-Notebooks

Okay, so fast forward to this year and me on Instagram watching ColorMadeHappy’s super easy tutorial on foiling and watercoloring techniques. Again – I decided I’m going to do the thing. So I hauled out all of my supplies that I somehow managed not to lose and got to work. Guess what? It’s amazingly easy! I have also spent a lot of time in the last year realizing that things don’t have to be perfect so I’m a little more open to trying things more than once.

These notebooks? Took a few tries. Mostly because I printed on the wrong paper twice and had not so great quality logos the third time. BUT we got it all figured out. AND I made a video! Its not perfect, but I did it and I’m kinda stoked on it. What do you guys think?

How to Metal Stamp Harry Potter Spell Pencils

on August 23, 2018

Turn your plain wood pencils into a magic wand with these metal stamp Harry Potter Spell Pencils!

I’ve always felt like I wasn’t a big enough fan to have all the cool things associated with fandom – the random Star Wars stuff from Disney or a Hufflepuff phone case. Alternately, I thought that having that fan stuff  (even if I absolutley loved it) would get me labeled as a weird. I’m working through a lot of things right now and realizing that its okay to like what you like, even if someone thinks you’re weird. I can totally be a “non-traditional” student with a Harry Potter backpack in an R2-D2 dress and it doesn’t matter if people judge me… because I like these things.

I’ve also been super into metal stamping lately and wanted to try my hand at doing pencils too. So – Harry Potter + School Supplies + Metal Stamps? Sounds like either a recipe for disaster or something cute. You be the judge.

Cost: $50+ – BUT the metal stamps are a total investment and can be used for a TON of other things.

My Cleaning Playlist

on August 21, 2018

Brush on your home survival skills or clean in beast mode with this cleaning playlist.

Can we talk about the cleaning process for a minute okay? I am totally that person that hates cleaning – nothing is gross and dirty, just messy and cluttered. I put things away and then can’t find them or it takes forever when I’d rather be doing something else, like knitting and watching netflix. When I do actually get around to cleaning, I pretty much follow the 5 year old method which is, clean until you find something you haven’t played with in a few months then realize an hour has passed. Yep. I need a grown up!

Scratch that. Because I am my own hero and I am 31 years old. I am a damn grown up and I can get this done even if I don’t like it. Also, for those of you out there procrastinating because its never going to be perfect – just go for it. Its gotta be better than nothing right?

MAKE IT: Back to School: Doodle Lunch Box Idea

Okay, but in all seriousness, I definitely need some “mood music” when I clean, its like beast mode for my vaccum cleaner. It keeps everything fun, I dance around and get all the things picked up. Also, I’ve had close to the same playlist for a few years now. Some songs get added but when it works, it works ya know?

What are your favorite songs to clean to?

Back to School: Doodle Lunch Box Idea

on August 15, 2018

Update your meal planning with this cute doodle lunch box idea!

So…. a few weeks ago I started on the Ketogenic diet. I’m sure a lot of you have either awesome stories to go with this or words of caution. I get it. I also know that I need to make a positive change and in terms of dieting – this is what works for me without a ton of stress. Its more of I need a lifestyle change and to have control over what I’m eating because ya’ll, if there are cupcakes in front of me, I WILL eat those for my daily calorie intake. I am not even kidding.

doodle-lunch box idea-bentobox

MAKE IT: Washi Tape Pencils

I digress. I started some new eating habits which have been great. I’m not forgetting to eat and then grabbing lunch wherever and more often than not I have to have the “You have food at home” talk with myself. Knowing what I can and can’t have has been great for me. In the process of all of this though, I’ve really had to take meal planning to heart and that means I really wanted some cute but functional lunch containers. YEP! I packed a lunch every day for class and work. As much as it annoyed me to have to do it, it was super helpful to not worry about what I was going to eat each day.

doodle-lunch box idea-bentobox

I really like these containers because they’re glass so they’re more heavy duty and I know they’re going to clean up better than my normal plastic and I feel like overall, they’re better for the environment? Maybe? Anyway. Lunch boxes.

This is a super easy DIY and all you really need are some oil based sharpies or enamel paint and your glass container. Pretty easy right?

Blendo Cat Treat Jars

on August 8, 2018

Make these cute blendo DIY cat treat jars in as little as 15 minutes!

This summer, since I’m not in classes, I decided I was going to WORK. It’s not exactly something that one decides – unless you’re Elle Woods, but I digress. I decided to work more than I usually do. That pretty much means instead of my usual work load, I doubled it. So I have been working a whole lot. I’ve been super fortunate to work for amazing families and do a job that I enjoy. Should I have spent that time working on my blog? Probably, but I’m also going to be in classes and need study time as soon as the semester starts (I’m taking Anatomy ya’ll) so it was important to me to build up my savings while I could. So as a result of me working lots and lots of 12 hour days I accidentally forgot to feed my cat. I mean, she’s fine. She graze feeds so I’m not worried but still. No one call the ASPCA or animal control or anything like that. She’s totally fine. Sorry Grampers!

How to make Giant Yarn out of Fleece!

Okay so I got home the other night and she had eaten all of her food (I didn’t fill her up in the morning) and she BROKE INTO THE CAT TREATS. This kitty found her treats on the counter, scratched through the bag, and made herself a meal. I can’t even with her. I honestly wasn’t sure if I should be mad at her or proud of her ingenuity or mad at myself for forgetting to top her up in the morning. Either way, I figured I should probably make something a little more sturdy to put her treats in (but not the organic ones, she’s weird and doesn’t like them). And in case you’re wondering, she likes Temptations and Feline Greenies in catnip flavor.

These blendo DIY cat treat jars are certainly doing the trick – not that I have forgotten to feed her since but still. Also, they’re super cute and match my decor so I’m calling it a win! Make your own with or without the blendo style!
