DIY Galentines Day Party with Oriental Trading

on February 3, 2017

The day is almost upon us and ya’ll know I’m going to be celebrating Galentines Day with my gal pals! More than likely I’ll be hanging out with The Ziering Girls  but I am absolutely not complaining! We’ll be hanging out, throwing it down breakfast style while celebrating all the things that we love about each other… because that’s what Leslie Knope told us to do. And honestly, if I can impart some of that amazing spirit onto the next generation (and their parents are cool with it) I’m all for it.

This year, I partnered with Oriental Trading to bring you some fun DIYs to really add some fun craftiness to our DIY Galentines Day Party and I have put them all together in this handy dandy list! Be sure to check out Oriental Trading for all of your party, craft, and well… basically anything… needs! Most of these projects can be created on the fly so if you’re a last minute party thrower (guilty!) I’ve got you covered.

Printable Galentines Coloring Page

I’m finally jumping into this adult coloring trend… I know! I know! None of you were surprised. I get it. That being said, I’m with kiddos so much that I just end up coloring in their books and we call it a day. I’ve also been falling back in love with crayons. Colored pencils are great and all, but crayons can be so versatile… that and its usually what we have around the house so littles don’t accidentally poke their eyes out.

But I digress… One of my favorite things to have at the coffee table during a get together are fun coloring pages. I feel that they give people something to do while they’re chatting or waiting for others to come. They also really set the mood for a fun creative party. For my Galentines day party this year I created my own printable Galentines Coloring Page with one of my favorite Leslie Knope sayings!

Hoes before bros
Ovaries before brovaries
Uteruses before duderuses

This year I got super creative and also made some fun layered ring crayons with some products from Oriental Trading. Guests were encouraged to “put a ring on it” and color to their hearts content!

DIY Glitter Heart Elbow Patch Sweater

on January 25, 2017

Newsflash you guys: Chelsea loves sparkles. Not like a whole lot, but enough to tell people that I sweat glitter.
Another Newsflash: Captain obvious called and you’re taking his job.

Okay okay, so for the last month or so I’ve been purging. I’ve gotten rid of clothes, craft supplies, craft projects, boxes, bins, more craft supplies, and even some sheets. Yes friends I am feeling the purge. Okay, but really. I found this grey sweater/duster thing and while it’s perfect for the weather and oh so cozy it is not perfect for my current style, which includes bright colors and glitter. Do you have a piece that just isn’t YOU anymore that you’re not ready to get rid of? To rectify this I got out my trusty DIY skills and some glitter and breathed new life into what would be an otherwise boring sweater. It’s super easy to do and I’ll show you how to create or upcycle your own DIY Glitter Heart Elbow Patch Sweater.

Galentines Day Wooden Bead DIY Napkin Rings

I’m going to let you guys in on a little secret…. I am really really bad at setting a table. I’m more of a buffet kinda girl. Like… here is the food and plates and plastic ware, you’re on your own. On top of all of this, I never saw a reason to have napkin rings. Seriously guys? Why? They’re just going to take up space in a drawer or box.

Learn how to paint wooden beads and use them to create fun DIY napkin rings and necklaces for your Valentines or Galentines day brunch! | statement necklace | Upcycle | wooden bead crafts | marble paint | painted beads | Pink Party - Do It Your Freaking Self

Okay, so maybe I have something against napkin rings, but for my Galentine’s Day Brunch I decided to bite the bullet and get a bit classy… but not too classy. I also decided that these wooden bead diy napkin rings needed to have a dual purpose for guests to take home after brunch because I did not want them sitting round my house. As a result, these can double as fun statement necklaces. The best part of this DIY, aside from multiple uses, is that it is something you can personalize to the colors of your party or to each guest’s favorite color. I partnered with Oriental Trading for all of my supplies for this project and the rest of my Galentines Day Brunch. If you’re also throwing one or at a loss for what to do for Valentines day, check out Oriental Trading’s Valentines Day shop!

Valentines day is just around the corner… or as I like to call it “Singles Awareness Day” or SAD for short. Because this year especially, it gets sad around these parts. But thankfully… a wonderful woman named Leslie Knope has given me something else to celebrate! Let me introduce you to Galentines Day.

“Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”

Basically it’s like Valentines Day, but instead of getting smoochy with your significant other, you’re spending it being awesome with your favorite gal pals. Get with it! The inspiration for today’s 3 Ingredient Strawberry Candy Bark? Well, I love the taste of strawberry and milk chocolate together and well, when I’m sad I’m eating chocolate. So this more of a selfish project, but who doesn’t want to eat chocolate for breakfast when they’re sad or celebrating? Win Win guys! I’m also giving these away as party favors for our Galentines day party this year!

Treat Yo' Self and your Galentines to some delicious strawberry candy bark! Just in time for a delicious treat for valentines day!

For my Galentines Day Party, I teamed up with Oriental Trading to help you guys with all of your party planning needs. If you’re in need of some cool boxes, craft items, or valentines for the kids Oriental Trading has your back with their Valentines Shop! Stay tuned for the full party reveal soon!

I don’t know about you guys but I know next to nothing about football. I know that I’m politely supposed to cheer for the host’s favorite team and yell really loudly when the appropriate team scores, but thats really about it. So why do I go to football parties?

Let’s be real here… I’m at your house for the food and maybe the betting pool. Awesome buffalo wings? Yes please! 4 different kinds of dip? BRING IT ON! So is it any surprise that my Gameday shirt for this year’s party says “Here for the Food”? I didn’t think so.

Besides myself, I also LOVE to bring my quick and easy Taco Dip and Stacy’s Pita Chips to a gameday party. They’re super versatile and healthy, there are tons of flavors and they don’t break in the dip! That last one is very important. Trust me.

I made this fun gameday shirt in an hour, so if you’re in a rush for what to wear for the game (or you’re like me and own NOTHING that is game day appropriate) I can help you out.

DIY Tea Bags with Sassy Printable Tags

on January 5, 2017

There is something about sitting down with a good cup of tea that makes me feel centered. Like I actually have my head screwed on straight. But then I finish it and realize my life is chaos and I like it that way. Most recently, I’ve fallen in love with loose leaf tea. There are so many new blends and benefits to loose tea and I love that I can actually see what is in a blend. Yep, pretty awesome.

Now, as much as I’d love to have that free floating tea that can tell me the future like Trelawney uses in Harry Potter, (You know what I’m talking about) I’m not a big fan of accidentally eating the leaves. Or loading tea strainers. Or cleaning tea strainers. It’s annoying and I can never get it all out. (You know you’re in the same boat) So! If you’re like me and want all the benefits of loose leaf tea but none of the annoyance, these DIY Tea Bags with Sassy Printable Tags are for you. These also make wonderful sassy gifts for your gal pals!

Fun and Simple Chunky Knit Scarf Pattern

on January 3, 2017

You guys! Have you noticed how much I’ve been knitting and crochetting lately? Because my room mate has just informed me that every time I go to the craft store I come home with even more yarn. To which I replied “No I don’t”. And now I’ve been stashing it under my bed so she can’t see it. True story.

Whip up a quick and easy scarf with this super simple chunky knit scarf pattern! Sure to keep you warm and toasty, but not dreary during the winter months! | Beginners Knitting Projects | chunky knits | pom pom scarf | quick knitting - Do It Your Freaking Self

But seriously folks! I’ve been obsessed with chunky yarn this season. It knits up so fast and feels oh so cozy. Its also great when you completely forget to buy presents for people and need something cheap and fast. But I digress. I’m kinda stoked that chunky knits are currently in style. And while I’d love to work something up like those giant merino wool blankets, I have neither the cash flow nor attention span to do something that huge. They are amazing though and I’ll probably get around to it at some point. So…. back to chunky yarn and scarves!

Grab some knitting needles and your favorite color yarn. We’re gonna make us a fun scarf!

on December 27, 2016

Ya’ll!!! 2016 is almost over! And it couldn’t come soon enough. Go home 2016, you’ve been drunk, hung over, and now you’re drunk again. Anyway, I promised myself I wouldn’t work over the holiday break – I’ve had a lot of plates spinning this year, and not all of them the same color/size/type if you know what I mean. I think one of them was a bowl or something – but I made this New Years Eve Dessert Chocolate Bark for a friend’s pre-New Years Eve photoshoot and it was too cute and festive not to share!

Dress up your New Years Eve Dessert with some easy and classy chocolate bark! Use it as a cupcake topper or part of your party candy buffet! Recipe | Fancy | Edible cupcake topper | New Years Party Food | Easy chocolate bark - Do It Your Freaking Self

Not to mention that I found the mini-marshmallows that usually come in hot chocolate, you know the ones, yeah, those get sold separately. They’re called Mallow Bits and they are the new staple at all of my parties. Hot chocolate bar? Mallow Bits. Chocolate pretzel station? Mallow bits. Anything with s’mores? Mallow Bits. Cupcake bar? Yep. Mallow Bits. I’m having them on everything and you can’t stop me. Day = made.
