A few years ago, I watched some videos on youtube about gold foiling and decided it would be a thing that I tried. I spent a decent amount of money and bought all the things. Tried it once, it didn’t turn out like the videos told me they would and then I never touched it again. I kind of have craft ADD sometimes – can you tell?
Okay, so fast forward to this year and me on Instagram watching ColorMadeHappy’s super easy tutorial on foiling and watercoloring techniques. Again – I decided I’m going to do the thing. So I hauled out all of my supplies that I somehow managed not to lose and got to work. Guess what? It’s amazingly easy! I have also spent a lot of time in the last year realizing that things don’t have to be perfect so I’m a little more open to trying things more than once.
These notebooks? Took a few tries. Mostly because I printed on the wrong paper twice and had not so great quality logos the third time. BUT we got it all figured out. AND I made a video! Its not perfect, but I did it and I’m kinda stoked on it. What do you guys think?

I’ve always felt like I wasn’t a big enough fan to have all the cool things associated with fandom – the random Star Wars stuff from Disney or a Hufflepuff phone case. Alternately, I thought that having that fan stuff (even if I absolutley loved it) would get me labeled as a weird. I’m working through a lot of things right now and realizing that its okay to like what you like, even if someone thinks you’re weird. I can totally be a “non-traditional” student with a Harry Potter backpack in an R2-D2 dress and it doesn’t matter if people judge me… because I like these things.
I’ve also been super into metal stamping lately and wanted to try my hand at doing pencils too. So – Harry Potter + School Supplies + Metal Stamps? Sounds like either a recipe for disaster or something cute. You be the judge.

I feel like I’ve been in a whirlwind of work and school and podcast launching for the last 2 months and I finally feel like I have some breathing room. One thing that has kept me partially sane is my mini trips to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood…. and wine. Lots of wine.

Universal Studios is about half way between one of my jobs and with my season pass, I sometimes like to stop on the way home and wander through the cobble stone streets of Hogsmeade drinking a butterbeer and eating fish and chips. And… possibly work on Chemistry homework. IT NEVER ENDS!!!
So of course, when I finally had time to make some Easter Eggs, I only had one thing on my mind and for real… I’m a bit in love with these Harry Potter Easter Eggs. Aaaaand I’m kinda craving one of Mrs. Weasley’s chocolate eggs (even though she was super mean and gave Hermione a smaller egg in the 4th book).
Okay, so these Harry Potter easter eggs are two fold. I did the traditional Hogwarts House eggs with the house crests and the Hogwarts Crest and then I did some Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes inspired ones. The graphics and iconography for their shop is absolutely amazing and Fred and George were GENIUSES!!!

I took the sorting test on Pottermore twice. Yep. I created two separate accounts for the sorting test. Why? Because I could? Maybe? Mostly because I got Gryffindor and I secretly think I’m a Hufflepuff. I got Ravenclaw on the second test so I’m not exactly sure what to do with that. Anyone else in the same boat?
As the holidays gear up, the pressure is on when you’re a crafter. I usually try to start my holiday creating at least 2 months in advance, but I was a little late with that so here I am… rushing to crochet, knit, weed, iron and paint a ridiculous amount of stuff. Does anyone else feel like they need to top themselves from the year before? I mean, yeah. I could go the easy route and just get gift sets for people but there comes this expectation that when you’re a crafter, you hand make everything. This year, I am making a ton of these slippers and I am in love with the color scheme. You see, this year, my friends and I decided to re-read the Harry Potter series and actually analyze it for what it is. It’s amazing the things that come into play when you’re looking at something as an adult. As a result, that friend group are getting vintage style slippers in their house colors! I nearly kept these Hufflepuff ones for myself!

Hands up if you have no clue about the difference between a blender brush and an angle brush! Do they put color on my eyelid? That’s all I need. I have a confession to make though, I own so many eyeshadow pallettes it’s sad and there’s only so many youtube beauty vloggers/tutorials I can deal with on a weekly basis. And to be honest, I really only enjoy watching Kimberly Clark. So a lot of my eyeshadow gets used once while I’m experimenting because well… putting on makeup is not really something fun for me.

I’m trying though! I’m really trying! I know that you don’t really NEED makeup to look beautiful and all that, but for me it at least makes my mornings look like I tried to be a functional adult. That and I can turn on the Harry Potter soundtrack and pretend to cast a floating charm on Grampa the Cat (It has never worked because I never got my Hogwarts letter and I am still bitter about that)

When I moved to Los Angeles I packed up my car. If it didn’t fit, it didn’t come with me. What did fit was an entire suitcase full of… yep, you guessed it. YARN. I learnt to crochet as a kid and it’s been one of my favorite ways to make handmade gifts as well as to calm down after a crazy week. I’m pretty much in love with all yarn work and I honestly feel like it is something anyone can do in some way shape or form. This cinched Crochet Ear Warmer uses only 2 stitches and is a wonderful beginner project just in time for the cooler weather. Even better…. they’re in Hogwarts house colors so I’m super excited to wear these babies all around Universal Studios this winter and feel like a real Hogwarts alumni!

So, the story is that when we got our apartment it had (has?) a small half bathroom under the stairs. And my room mate at the time and I were so enamoured by this that we decided to make it a Harry Potter themed bathroom, because… why not? It’s like the cupboard under the stairs that Harry lived in until he started getting Hogwarts letters! Though…. not as dreary.
I would spend HOURS pinning pieces I’d like to add, or designs I liked, or anything that really struck my fancy. It’s been 3 years in this apartment and I’m finally getting my butt in gear to actually decorate this place as it has that “I bought this because it was cheap and served a function” vibe. In my senior year of high school, I had a teacher that (while meaning well) pretty much made me over analyze EVERYTHING. To the point where I could not even watch the newest episode of Star Wars without enjoying it.. I mean, it wasn’t the best movie anyway, but still. I believe this was Episode 3, not 7. 7 was awesome. Anyhoo. I had a hard time reading because having to over analyze things just sucked the enjoyment out of reading for me. Anyone else have a class like that? How did you deal with it?
After high school, I ended up reading nothing but Harry Potter for the next 6 months unless I had to read something for a class. And honestly, I feel like those books made me LOVE reading again. Sure there’s symbolism out the frame, but at the end of they day they are really well written worlds that you can sink into. Did I mention that prior to this period I had probably read the books 3-4 times each anyway? Yep. Nerd alert! I’m gonna be honest though… I feel like I’m a hufflepuff, but I keep testing Ravenclaw.
