Make your Own Watercolor Paints

on February 22, 2016

And STEM lesson!

I’ve been working with some older kids recently and realized that some of the crafts I usually plan just won’t cut it. Its kind of exciting because it means I can create projects that are a bit more involved than usual.

J has been really into art. So much art! And while he has a ton of art supplies around the house, I thought it would be more fulfilling to make his own. Enter DIY WaterColor Paints! I know you can get them for super cheap at the dollar store, but this kills two birds with one stone… It is an activity for you to do together and can be used as a teaching tool.

Lemon Poppy Seed Cake Mix Cookies Recipe

on February 19, 2016

I had originally planned to only post this soft, delicious and easy Lemon Poppy Seed Cake Mix Cookies Recipe but this post kind of got away from me. There’s so much I’m learning about life through writing this blog and the experiences I’ve had on the outside that I felt like I HAD to share it.

When the idea of this blog first came about I was excited, but scared. What if I had nothing original to give? What if it didn’t succeed? What if I wasn’t as creative as I thought….

How to Knit a Beanie on Straight Needles

on February 17, 2016
Sometimes I get bored and make things. Hence the reason I started a blog!

Okay, so recently I tried to KonMari my house, or at least my craft stash, because at this point it was taking over my house. I got rid of some fabric, notions, random odds and ends, projects that I was never going to finish, etc. But I just couldn’t part with my yarn knowing that I could do a few stash busters and make a ton of small projects. Yarn tends to spark joy. There’s just so many possibilities!

Do you have any project supplies that you just can’t part with?

Recipe: Anti Valentines Day Cookies

on February 12, 2016

Every year my friend throws an Anti-Valentines Day party where we watch action movies, drink wine and eat a ton of chocolate. Why?  Because we’re single and still want the chocolates and greeting cards and dinner. I guess there’s a new trend to call  it “Galentines” day. I kind of like that idea, except that I have some single dude friends that would be a little insulted.

Red Velvet Rice Krispies Squares Recipe

on February 5, 2016
Okay, so I’m going to start this off by saying that I only recently started liking Red Velvet. Why? I always felt it was overrated, but most importantly the times I’d tried it, the cake had this horribly chalky texture to it that I couldn’t stand.. oh! and the cream cheese icing they had? Totally slimy. I’m a texture eater. I cannot lie. But in the last year or so I’ve had some AMAZING red velvet cupcakes with just the right hint of cocoa in them and NO chalky texture to give me the heebie jeebies, and so I have had to rethink my stance on the flavor.

Also, let it be said, adding raspberry flavor to chocolate does not red-velvet make. That is not red velvet and not delicious… unless you’re into that…. but don’t call it red velvet.

DIY Essential Oil Shower Soothers

on February 3, 2016
Do you ever just walk into lush and look at all those delicious bath bombs and fizzles, dreaming of yourself luxuriating in a bath full of bubbles and luscious scents? Yep, me too. Then I realize that I don’t really have a bathtub and I get a little sad. Nope, I’m not paying that much money for a bath bomb when I don’t even have a bath.
But I still want a fancy shower with aroma therapy and all that fancy stuff. So what is a girl to do?

Easy Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods Recipe

on January 29, 2016
I LOVE baking with kids. So much so, that when I went over to hang out with Noah (5) and Peyton (2.5), Peyton promptly asked if we were making cookies. I could not handle the cute.

Alas, we were not making cookies that day, but I think they had fun regardless. Noah was very careful with his decorating, while P was more interested in the sprinkles that were stuck on her fingers and the chocolate that came with it. (there was a lot of hand washing going on)

DIY Kids Melted Crayons Valentines (with printable)

on January 25, 2016
Since the third grade I have always promised myself I’d make me own valentines, and since the third grade I have not accomplished this. Don’t get me wrong, I hand them out, but they’re usually the store bought kind in whatever quirky thing I’m feeling when I go shopping. Since I’ve been working with kids though, I realized how easy it can be. Yes, I said easy. Apparently I was a bit overambitious before this. Who knew!

You can make your own cute valentines with all of those leftover melted crayons… or new ones if you don’t have bits of old ones. We’ve all done it, but the heart shape and printable card are what make them perfect for valentines.
