Rainbow Unicorn Cupcakes

on May 26, 2016

Have I expressed my love for Unicorns yet? Because I love them. Even though they are jerks.

I bought these super cute Unicorn party picks from Kikkerland FOREVER ago. I didn’t really have anything in mind for them, just that I liked them. And while I’ve had plenty of opportunities to use them, I’ve never felt the event was special enough.

Rainbow Unicorn Cupcakes - Party Picks

And lets be honest here, Unicorns do not belong on cheese. There is nothing special about a unicorn toothpick in cheese unless it is the magical kind with zero calories and still tastes amazing (which doesn’t exist, unlike Unicorns). So here’s to some fun and delicious rainbow unicorn cupcakes that are totally worthy of my unicorn toothpicks. I did worry a bit about the heads being angled downward because I STABBED THE CUPCAKE WITH THE HORN!!!

And if you’re looking for a simple easy Unicorn inspired recipe you can do with the kiddos, try this Unicorn Bark.

DIY Galaxy Shoes

on May 23, 2016

One of my littles has been obsessed with space recently. So much so that I’ve been scrambling to find engaging crafts for him that aren’t the super simple “glue piece A onto spot B” and that won’t take up fridge space and make it into the trash on the next clean up. (You know it’s true parents. Just embrace it) So, with him growing like a weed, I thought it only fitting that we make DIY Galaxy Shoes together. It really killed two birds with one stone. It gave us an arts and crafts project to do AND it gave him new shoes. I didn’t take photos of his shoes, but here is the process with mine!

DIY Clothes Pin Magnets

on May 18, 2016

This last week has been a bit cray-cray to say the least. With picking up extra shifts and birthdays abounding this month, I’ve been having a rough time making time to create and also getting myself in the right head space.  So… I’ve been playing some video games and then took a walk for inspiration… because that is what one does. Oh, and I ate cupcakes. 2 of them. From Big Sugar Bakeshop. Because y’all know I love me some cupcakes.

Day of the Week Clothes Pins - Make and use rainbow clips to organize your closet, school lunches and to do lists

Okay so, I’ve been working a lot on finding inspiration. I’ve been trying to get out of the house, go to the craft store, play… really just trying to unplug. I’m not sure if its been working, but I really feel that creativity is a muscle and you have to exercise it, so I’ve been trying to do more of that.

These Day of the Week Clothes Pin Magnets are a product of that “exercise”.  What do you do to find inspiration?

DIY Elegant Flat Marble Vase

on May 16, 2016

One of my New Years Resolutions was to always have fresh flowers in my house, and honestly, I never realized how much I LOVED having them. It also helps that Trader Joes has them in my price range. Can I get a HECK YEAH for being broke with expensive taste?

Anyway, I realized early on that I didn’t have a vase to put things in. More specifically, I was using an empty jar candle glass as my vase. Yes folks, I have stooped that low. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I’m just 29 years old now and should probably stop living like a college kid. So what is a girl to do? She makes it her freaking self!

Jeweled DIY Picture Frame

on May 11, 2016

I’ve been thinking a lot about the big picture. About how sometimes we think we see it all, but we really don’t. One of the things that we’ve been talking about at church is the big picture. The long exposure. About how God sees everything even when our eyes can’t… especially when our eyes can’t. I’ve been thinking a lot about how sometimes God doesn’t let us see the big picture. Because there’s things we don’t need to know yet.

These kids DIY picture frames are fun and easy for the kiddos to make. They make great Mother's Day and Father's Day gifts and kids will love painting and gluing on gems.

I’ve been nannying for coming up on two years now and I’m really amazed at what I’m realizing. I’m realizing that I’m so blessed to have the families that I’ve had. For the friends that I’ve made through this type of work and the connections I’ve made. I’m blessed to have learned so much from each family – About the world, about myself. And I realize that I don’t know what God has in store for me, I don’t know what the big picture is. But I know that I have to take the steps. That I have to follow God in helping to raise these babies and to work with these families. Because God has a bigger plan for all of us, but we have to take the steps in order to achieve that.

I think that if we saw the entire picture than me maybe wouldn’t go through the process that we need to in order to come out the other end. It’s like if you know that everything’s gonna work out, are you going to try as hard as you would if you didn’t. If you know that your bills are going to get paid at the end of the month, are you going to work hard to make sure that happens or you going to float because you know its already taken care of. That’s something that I’m struggling really hard with right now because I like to know what the end result is, but I don’t. And I’m learning to be OK with that.

DIY Animal Necklace

on May 5, 2016

Sometimes I buy craft supplies.  Well, a lot of the time I buy craft supplies, and a lot of the time they just sit there waiting to be used. Once I got the idea for a blanket and bought all of the yarn and then didn’t make it. I had another project that I needed to finish and by the time I had actually finished said project, I had a million other ideas and a Jo-Ann coupon that needed using.  As it stands right now, there is a corner of my room that is like the Labyrinth of craft supplies. HELP! Anyone else have this problem?

These cute DIY animal necklaces are so fun and easy to make! They make lovely gifts for your fashionable friends or a great jewelry accessory for yourself.

Sometimes though, I buy supplies that I end up not using for one reason or another. In this case, I bought these cute plastic animals with the intention of using them for my Animal Butt Magnets, but alas, they were too tiny. So what is one to do with all of their extra tiny animals? Make necklaces of course!

DIY Sleep Mask

on April 28, 2016

How to ROCK your Bedtime Routine, fall asleep fast, (and make a pretty killer DIY Sleep Mask)

Throughout most of my adult life I have had problems getting to sleep. Staying asleep? No problem (usually). But since high school I found myself pulling un-needed all nighters. Not like I needed to finish a project, but literally couldn’t get to sleep.

I read all of the articles on what to do but couldn’t seem to quiet my brain down. I’d taken medications that got me to sleep great, but left me drowsy in the morning. (what I like to call a sleep hangover) It was only recently that I found something that actually worked for me without medication of any kind.

No one ever tells you that adulting means you essentially have to treat yourself like a child. You create a bedtime routine for yourself. Try to give yourself healthy food. Set up playdates with your friends and family. And sometimes you do things that you don’t want to do even though you know its good for you.

Anyway, back with the sleep thing. I had to start creating a bedtime routine for myself. It really helps set me into the flow, and I can honestly say for the last 2 months I have not had a problem falling asleep or getting out of bed the next day.

Rock your Bedtime Routine, get better sleep, get to sleep faster and make your own sleep mask!

Greek Yogurt Raspberry Muffin Recipe

on April 24, 2016

Do you ever get the feeling that something super cute is calling out to you? Like you HAVE to buy it and make something with it because OMG so cute!? No? Only me?

Screen Shot 2016-04-23 at 11.05.16 AM

Okay, so I was in World Market and this happened to me. I was scanning through the kitchen section because they always have cute things and well… these cake molds literally jumped out at me. Like precariously balanced and fell on the floor jumped. THEN they were 25% off AND I had a coupon. It was fate.

Ultra moist and dense Raspberry muffin recipe made with greek yogurt and fresh raspberries. Delicious!

So I bought them. And took them home. And made muffins. Now… One of my great beefs with cupcakes is that while they’re SUPPOSED to be light and fluffy, I really like them dense. So I also have a love for muffins. This  Raspberry muffin recipe makes muffins that are super dense and super delicious. Give them a try!

How to Make Unicorn Bark

on April 19, 2016

I’ll admit I have a special affinity for unicorns. They’re mythical, magical, and they can stab you with their heads. Pretty awesome huh?

How to make Unicorn Bark. A magical rainbow treat! Also called Unicorn Poop

Get magical by making this Unicorn White Chocolate Bark!

No, my house is not completely decorated in them. No, not everything I own has a unicorn on it, but I do love them. The term unicorn doesn’t always refer to the mythical white horse that bleeds silver (thank you Harry Potter) or poops glitter and marshmallows. It can also refer to something special, unique. In the start up world, a unicorn (in Canada they call them Narwhals and that makes me laugh) is astart up that is valued at over $1 Billion. Think about that! (with my pinky at my mouth) 1 Billion Dollars. I wouldn’t have to work at all with that kind of money… like ever… and still have some left over. How to make Unicorn Bark. A magical rainbow treat! Also called Unicorn Poop

For me, I like to refer to people unicorns as those who freaking rock and are magical and not afraid to show it.

How to Make Tissue Paper Seed Bombs

on April 17, 2016

Quick and easy steps to make your own colorful seed bombs to throw and grow wild flowers. Great Earth Day crafts for kids and wedding favors.

When I was in grade school, I remember celebrating Earth Day with soil lessons, making those super fun seed sprout bags, and eating worms an dirt. I’m sure there was more, but that’s whats going through my brain right now.

This post may contain affiliate links, that means that I make a few pennies if you purchase through my links… but the price for you stays the same!!

I promise this is going somewhere, so just bear with me.  My friend Angie is also getting married soon with a science themed wedding. It’s awesome. I’m not gonna lie. We were talking about what she should do as favors, and the idea of seed bombs came up.  To which my brain hearkened back to Earth Day activities and I thought it would be such a fun thing to do with the kiddos! See, I connected it! Be proud of me!

Quick and easy steps to make your own colorful seed bombs to throw and grow wild flowers. Great Earth Day crafts for kids and wedding favors.

Anyhoo, for Angie’s wedding we wanted to create something that had a pop of color and you can’t really do that with soil…. I mean its brown. So! We had the idea to use tissue paper so we could control the colors. The kids really took to this… I mean, who doesn’t like tearing up paper? Fair warning, you’re going to need a blender for this. I LOVE using my Magic Bullet for these types of projects.
