Okay friends. Let me introduce you to the pi song.
Yeah, all I remember is that pi = 3.14159. You don’t really need to know more than that, unless you have an awesome memory and love math.
Anyway, I love Pi Day for a few reasons. For one, I love baking… duh. And two, I get a kick out of telling uninformed people that it is officially Pi Day and therefore we eat pi and celebrate math. They think I’m a dork, but whatever.
Imagination Pie aka Neverfeast Pies from Hook
Okay, so if you know me, you know I LOVE the movie Hook. Like f’realzies. Anyway, my friend JacquieLonglegs made these Imagination Pies and it was love at first sight. Almost makes you want to have a food fight right? Not really. The clean up scares me. However, this would be a really fun project to do with the kids. They can help with measuring out ingredients, choose colors, and decorate!
Apple Pi Day Pie
Before she was super famous and had a book, Rosana Pansino was over at Nerdy Nummies in her teeny tiny kitchen making some pretty awesome things. I love her Apple Pi Pie idea of cutting out the apples into number shapes. If you’re working on this with kiddos, it will be something incredibly fun and you can use the left overs for snacks!
Rasperry Pie Pops
I love it when recipes look hard but are actually super easy! These Rasperry Pie Pops from Thrifty Jinxy look so cute and delicious! And not a whole lot of mess either… unless you have a jam incident (we don’t talk about it)
Mini-Taco Hand Pies
And while we’re talking about mini pies, don’t these Taco Hand Pies from Lemons For Lulu just make your day? Pie does not always have to be sweet! I’m a bit obsessed with tacos, burritos, etc … we’re still not sure why, but if my roommate asks if I want Chipotle, you can bet I’m going. It doesn’t help that there is one in walking distance from my apartment.
Tiramisu Pie
Okay, so this Tiramisu Pie from An Italian In My Kitchen is not only easy, but it has Nutella. I am in love. I’m in love with a lot of food these days. Oh the curse of being a baker. Anyway, this is definitely something you want to make to bring to work, impress a date, or share with yourself… because you’re single and totally happy with that. More for you right?
Pizza “Pie”
You know whats delicious? Pizza. You know what is even more delicious? Pizza pie. Why? MORE TOPPINGS OM NOM NOM. Check out these Pizza Pot Pies from Andrea’s Recipes. Its a great activity to do with the kids!
No Bake Strawberry Dreamsicle Pie
Did someone say no-bake? Thats speaking my kiddie language! This Strawberry Dreamsicle Pie from Today’s Creative Life would be great for our California weather when it can’t decide if it wants to be warm or cold. Also, its pretty tasty if I do say so myself.
Chocolate Strawberry Oasis Pie (from Waitress)
Okay, so I’ve watched the movie Waitress more times that I’m comfortable with admitting. And I really can’t tell you the number of times I’ve listened to the What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress. Sara Bareilles is amazing… if you haven’t listened to it. DO IT NOW!! And while I’m still looking for a recipe from Jenna’s Paradise Pie, this Chocolate Strawberry Oasis Pie from Love and Olive Oil makes me want to watch the movie again. Movie night anyone?
S’more Brownie Pie
S’mores! Who doesn’t love them!!! If you do, please leave… not really come back! I love you! Okay so anyway, I love smores. I love gooey brownies and I love graham cracker crusts. Wham Bam Thankyou Ma’am, this pie has a place at my table. S’mores Brownie Pie from Thrifty Diva
Ice Box Apple Pie in a Jar
How cute are these Ice Box Apple Pie Jars from Kleinworth & Co! I know I’ve already featured an apple pie, but I really can’t wait to try these with the kiddos! They’re no bake, the kids can crunch up graham crackers and generally have some fun in the kitchen. If you’re planning some Pi Day crafts or activities, you can make these before hand and eat them as dessert after dinner!
