Sometimes you just need bright colors, a margarita, and a taco. Yep, Cinco De Mayo is almost here and it’s time to really impress your friends by making all the fun things for your celebration! Now, I’m all for letting cupcakes stand on their own merits. They’re tasty, they look pretty, and usually if there’s a lot of garnish, it’s over compensating. However! For Cinco De Mayo, I hold to the theory that more is more… but keep it classy. These Fringe Cupcake Toppers will look perfect on your Cheesecake Churro Cupcakes and in your glass as you stir that margarita. They’ll also look super adorable at your birthday party when you match the color scheme of decor. Basically, it’s like a fiesta just looking at them so you should make them because they’re easy and fun and cheap. K?
Fringe Cupcake Toppers
Supplies:
6 inch wooden skewers
Bright colored tissue paper
Glue runner or glue stick
Scissors
Time: 15 minutes
Cost: $5 or less
Bringing the party? YES!
To start, decide which colors you want to use. fold it in half a few times and cut a 1-2 inch strip across the bottom. Cut that strip in half width wise and cut that again width wise and again leaving you with about 3 inches.
From here, use your scissors to cut fringe along the long side of the tissue paper. My fringe is about 1/8 inch wide, but I also just eye-balled it, so you don’t really have to measure it. Make sure you leave about 1/4 inch at the bottom so you can glue it onto the wooden skewers.
Once you have all of your fringe cut, it’s time to (Avengers) assemble!! (yes I just read that in a super hero voice)
Using a gluestick or glue runner, apply a line of glue to the bottom, uncut portion of the fringe.
Carefully wrap the fringe around the very top of the wooden skewer as many times around as it will go.
Apply glue to the next piece and do the same, wrapping it directly underneath the top layer. Continue doing this until you’re satisfied with the coverage on the skewer. I’d suggest wrapping less if you’re making a drink stirrer. No one wants tissue paper in their margarita!
Stick your beautiful Fringe Cupcake Toppers into the cupcakes and get ready to PARTY!
