DIY Foam Paint

on July 18, 2016

This post may contain sponsored and affiliate links. Purchasing from these links helps support this website and my craft supply addiction.

You guys know what I like? DIY Foam Paint. Yep Foam Paint. And yes. It can be messy, but it is also washable which means I am all over it! Stick some kiddos outside with some Kraft paper and let them go at it.

Make your own Foam Paint with shaving cream, school glue, and food coloring! Also called puffy paint, this 3 ingredient project is fun and engaging for kids

I sent 2 of my littles on this task and ended up with a family photo (myself included), flowers, dogs and…. a rainbow? She used all of the colors anyway.

Now, I watched a video of someone making these and they used really cool squeeze bottles and everything came out great…. mine, epic pinterest fail. How do you even get the stuff in the bottle without making a huge mess!?!? The first time we tried this I used small bowls. They were great until it was time to mix the shaving cream with the glue… yet another epic fail. Let’s just say, I figured out an easier way that is also super fun and (kinda) mess free!

It’s also really fun for the kiddos to make their own craft supplies, so this is really like 2 activities in one! Babysitter win!

DIY Watermelon Shoes

on July 11, 2016

To say that I’m a bit in love with these shoes is an understatement. I’ve had them just sitting in my closet waiting for the perfect project to come along and well, this is it…. for now.

You guys, I’m not a shoe person by any means. I literally have like 3-4 pairs that I wear until they fall apart then bemoan the fact that I have to go find another pair. Yes folks, life is rough. (can you sense my sarcasm?)

Feeling fruity? These DIY Watermelon Shoes are quick, fun fashion for your summer picnics! Easy potato stamp tutorial for great results!

BUT back to these super cute watermelon shoes. Aren’t they cute?!? They take about 15 minutes to make and then you’re out in the sunshine showing off your love for the best summer fruit ever!

Star Stenciled Placemats

on July 6, 2016

I don’t have a kitchen table. I have a coffee table and a bar that is usually full of random crafting stuff. Needless to say I’ve spent most of my adult life without a kitchen table. So imagine me with a drawer of interchangeable placemats for each season…. yeah, not gonna happen.  As much as I think they add to a table, they’re kind of hard to keep around when you don’t have a use for them and limited storage space. Maybe when I figure out how to organize my apartment (after 3 years of living here) I will get a kitchen table.

It wasn’t until I started feeding 2 year olds at the big kid table that I realized a love for place mats and not just because they can be cute. Especially ones that are either disposable or washable. I made these Team USA Star Stenciled Placemats for a patriotic play date and kind of fell in love with them. They cost less than $2 each and took me about 15 minutes to make total. Best of all, the kids loved them!

How to Make a Mermaid Trinket Tray

on June 20, 2016

Let’s talk mermaids shall we? Yes, mermaids. I’m talking Ariel, Peter Pan’s friends that live in the lagoon, Daryl Hannah in Splash, MERMAIDS. (I’m choosing to ignore the Cabin in the Woods Merman (Not Safe For Kids) because…. reasons). Like any baby of the 80s/child of the 90’s I grew up during the Disney Renaissance. Meaning that Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Lion King (to name a few) were on heavy rotation at my house. We’re talking constantly. And now, as I take care of little girls, I get to experience that all over again…. and it’s AWESOME! Seriously, dress up and princess pretend with 5 year olds is amazing.

Okay, so recently I got to see the Little Mermaid performed live to screen at the Hollywood Bowl. For those of you that don’t know what that is, its basically the movie playing with stars or original cast coming out and singing the songs while the movie is playing. I’m not gonna lie, it was pretty awesome. I’m gonna make you a little jealous here and say that it was Sara Bareilles (Ariel), Titus Burgess (Sebastian), and Rebel Wilson (Ursula)….oh, and Uncle Jesse as the Chef. Yep. You missed it. Get jealous.  So, as I was saying before I got super excited about this experience, I saw the production and was inspired to make this super simple Mermaid Trinket Tray. Well, that an the original little mermaid in Denmark (which is suuuuuper tiny, just sayin). Now you can collect all of your own gadgets and gizmos a plenty, thingamabobs and more in your own Mermaid Trinket Tray!

Bubble Painting Note Cards

on June 15, 2016

It’s all about the bubble…paint note cards. I’m not sure there is any child that will tell you they don’t like blowing bubbles in their milk. It’s probably one of my favorite past times personally. Especially when it’s chocolate milk because then it mixes everything up even more. YUM!

Bubble painting note cards are a fun project for kids of all ages. Creat sensory and art play opportunities with this tutorial. Or just make some really cool notecards for your gift packaging

Okay, so this craft is not about milk, but it IS about blowing bubbles and making art with them. Bubble painting note cards are a great project for kiddos as it allows them to be a bit messy and they make something really really cool.

on June 6, 2016

Spray Painted Glass Bottle Vases

on June 1, 2016

I collect jars and bottles. Like too many. I collect old pasta jars, pickle jars, those bottles left over from when I tried to do a juice clense for 2 days (I got really cranky). I collect so many jars that the “house drink” at our place is a “Jar-Garita” inspired by My Drunk Kitchen. Yes, we like jars at our house. But sometimes I feel like maybe, just maybe, they can be prettier? Cuter? So lets give it a try. These DIY Spray Painted Glass Bottle Vases will take you probably 10 minutes make great gifts or fun party decorations! Lets get started, I’ll show you how!

DIY Queen of Hearts Magnets

on May 30, 2016

Making Perler Bead magnets are a fun activity for children ages 6+. These DIY Queen of Hearts Magnets are sure to keep them busy and create something fun!

I’ve started writing the intro to the post probably 10 times and kept going down the rabbit hole. How appropriate that this post should be about Alice In Wonderland!

If we’re being honest, which we are, I’ve always been in love with Alice in Wonderland. As a book, it’s beautifully written. As a film (cartoon, movies, etc), it is a classic. I’m also a huge fans of the book re-imaginings. I think it speaks to Carroll’s legacy that his characters keep coming up in various forms and people are still inspired by his works of fantasy today. My favorite book iteration has got to be The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor.

DIY Queen of Hearts Magnets inspired by Disney's Alice in Wonderland. Perler Bead patterns and ideas for your next craft project.

So, with Alice Through the Looking Glass coming out this weekend and Allavelle’s Beautiful Children’s Book DIY, I was inspired to create these DIY Queen of Hearts Magnets!

I especially like working with perler beads with the older kiddos because it keeps them busy, helps them with motor skills, and teaches them about patterns and shapes.

DIY Galaxy Shoes

on May 23, 2016

One of my littles has been obsessed with space recently. So much so that I’ve been scrambling to find engaging crafts for him that aren’t the super simple “glue piece A onto spot B” and that won’t take up fridge space and make it into the trash on the next clean up. (You know it’s true parents. Just embrace it) So, with him growing like a weed, I thought it only fitting that we make DIY Galaxy Shoes together. It really killed two birds with one stone. It gave us an arts and crafts project to do AND it gave him new shoes. I didn’t take photos of his shoes, but here is the process with mine!
