on January 17, 2019

Being sick is a bummer, so help make a friend or loved one’s day with a cute DIY Sick Day Care Package filled with some get well goodies!

Sick day care package-1

At 31.5 I still call my mom whenever I get sick. Granted, my mother is a nurse so there is usually reason to, but there is just something about being sick that makes you want your mommy. Unfortunately, I live in LA where my entire friend group is living away pretty far away from family…. so we have to take care of each other. I recently had a dear friend get sick and had to cancel plans. Here’s the thing, I have to schedule nearly my whole life due to work and school and my friends and I are all on different schedules. Between work getting busier and classes starting soon, I’m already scheduling in a mental breakdown for spring break. So, when one of us has to cancel plans because of sickness? Not good.

As a result, I filled my time by bringing her a Sick Day basket. I’ve seen a lot of these online where there are crossword puzzles and coloring books, but in the days of Netflix and Chill… I think its safe to say we’re all crashed out on the couch with some orange juice and a cozy blanket waking up in between scenes of Lord of the Rings. I filled the basket with some essentials that I knew she liked and just dropped it off. Quick note, unless they actually need you to take care of them or want to see you, its probably best to drop it off. No one wants to deal with guests when they’re doing poorly.

Sick Day Care Package

To make the DIY Fringe Basket:
Supplies:
Yarn of your choice
Wire basket – I got mine for super cheap from Walmart
Scissors
Masking tape

DIY Fringe basket

1. Cut strips of yarn twice the height of your basket. I found a mini notebook that was produced just the right length so I wrapped it and then just cut a bunch at once.

2. Grab 2 strands of the yarn you just cut and fold them in half. Then Loop them around top edge of your wire basket, passing the free end through the loop to secure it to the edge.

3. Continue looping and threading yarn until you’ve filled the entire width of the basket snuggly.

4. Tip the basket over so that you can lay the yarn flat against the table. Using the masking tape, tape off the arrow shape you’d like on the front and back.

5. Cut across the masking tape. This will assure that your yarn stays in place and gives you a clean line once you’re done cutting.

6. Fill the basket up with all types of goodies for a cute Sick Day Care Package!

DIY Sleep Mask

on April 28, 2016

How to ROCK your Bedtime Routine, fall asleep fast, (and make a pretty killer DIY Sleep Mask)

Throughout most of my adult life I have had problems getting to sleep. Staying asleep? No problem (usually). But since high school I found myself pulling un-needed all nighters. Not like I needed to finish a project, but literally couldn’t get to sleep.

I read all of the articles on what to do but couldn’t seem to quiet my brain down. I’d taken medications that got me to sleep great, but left me drowsy in the morning. (what I like to call a sleep hangover) It was only recently that I found something that actually worked for me without medication of any kind.

No one ever tells you that adulting means you essentially have to treat yourself like a child. You create a bedtime routine for yourself. Try to give yourself healthy food. Set up playdates with your friends and family. And sometimes you do things that you don’t want to do even though you know its good for you.

Anyway, back with the sleep thing. I had to start creating a bedtime routine for myself. It really helps set me into the flow, and I can honestly say for the last 2 months I have not had a problem falling asleep or getting out of bed the next day.

Rock your Bedtime Routine, get better sleep, get to sleep faster and make your own sleep mask!

DIY Flower Crown

on April 6, 2016

Festival season is upon us which means, if you live in SoCal, Coachella! If you don’t, there are a million festivals going on all summer for you to go vibe out at. If you’re a mom, dad or nanny to little girls, it means tea party picnics and pretending to be a pixie among other things.

Easy DIY Flower Crown. Great for festival fashion, photography props, and dress up boxes. Make yours for under $5!

That being said, I am anxiously awaiting all of the bohemian fashion posts that I will assuredly see on various fashion blogs.

One of the staples that I’ve seen every year are beautiful flower headbands and crowns. I’ve seen them retail for upwards for $50, but today, I’m going to show you how to make one for under $5. Yep, under 5. Let us all say thank you to the 99¢ Store powers that be.

Strawberry Champagne Cupcakes

on April 4, 2016

What do you guys do to combat stress? I know that at this point in my life I should know what good stress is and bad stress is, but honestly, I just feel constantly overwhelmed. Like there’s too much going on and too many plates spinning in the air. There have been quite a few craft fails, late nights, even earlier mornings and not enough kitty cuddles to go around… Oh, and did I mention that my diet totally went out the window? I lived on takeout. I wore the same outfit TO WORK 2 days in a row. Yep folks, this is adulthood.

Champagne cupcakes with a fresh strawberry buttercream frosting. Doctored from a cake mix. Easy for everyone!

One of the things I’ve done since I was a kid is when I’m stressed or upset or overwhelmed, I bake. I don’t go on baking bender and make a million cookies in 10 different flavors, but I do like to cook up a mean batch of cupcakes on occasion. I could say that these champagne cupcakes are stress cupcakes, but really… the flavor says otherwise. So grab some dry champagne and give them a try… and a taste at your next brunch. You could even do orange cream buttercream for a traditional mimosa flavor!

How to Knit a Beanie on Straight Needles

on February 17, 2016
Sometimes I get bored and make things. Hence the reason I started a blog!

Okay, so recently I tried to KonMari my house, or at least my craft stash, because at this point it was taking over my house. I got rid of some fabric, notions, random odds and ends, projects that I was never going to finish, etc. But I just couldn’t part with my yarn knowing that I could do a few stash busters and make a ton of small projects. Yarn tends to spark joy. There’s just so many possibilities!

Do you have any project supplies that you just can’t part with?

Rainbow Layer Cake

on February 15, 2016
My little Noah  is turning 6! I seriously can’t believe it. His mom asked me to help plan the food his Rainbow party and of course I said yes! I’m a bit in love with this cake and even though I tore up my kitchen TWICE and ended up with food coloring all over my hands (don’t ask)… and the dishes for this were a beast. But…

The thing with kids parties is that you don’t need to go over the top to be classy and have fun. Your life does NOT have to be over the top to be pinterest worthy. And honestly, I think kids at this age are just happy their friends are around and having fun.

Anyhoo, we looked around and really just fell in love with this Rainbow Layer Cake from Love and Olive Oil. And while it was a bit daunting, I made sure to try it out before hand just to make sure it would turn out right. See, I’m more of a cupcake gal, so a whole cake felt pretty out of my league. Especially one like this!

Recipe: Anti Valentines Day Cookies

on February 12, 2016

Every year my friend throws an Anti-Valentines Day party where we watch action movies, drink wine and eat a ton of chocolate. Why?  Because we’re single and still want the chocolates and greeting cards and dinner. I guess there’s a new trend to call  it “Galentines” day. I kind of like that idea, except that I have some single dude friends that would be a little insulted.

DIY Essential Oil Shower Soothers

on February 3, 2016
Do you ever just walk into lush and look at all those delicious bath bombs and fizzles, dreaming of yourself luxuriating in a bath full of bubbles and luscious scents? Yep, me too. Then I realize that I don’t really have a bathtub and I get a little sad. Nope, I’m not paying that much money for a bath bomb when I don’t even have a bath.
But I still want a fancy shower with aroma therapy and all that fancy stuff. So what is a girl to do?
