Every year I promise myself that I’m going to decorate for the seasons and every year I get distracted. Sorry folks… my life is not pinterest perfect! This year I decided to go a little out of the ordinary and make some fun rainbow fried egg pillows to brighten up my living room and celebrate the season in a fun and quirky way. Because let’s be honest here as much as I love decorating eggs I kinda HATE hard boiled eggs and there is no way I’m eating those.

Fried Egg Pillows

Supplies (makes 4)
1 yard white fleece
1/4 or less yard blue, yellow, pink, purple fleece
White dual duty thread
Scissors
Sewing machine
Fabric pins
Polyfill (at least 15 oz)
Light colored Permanent marker or fabric pencil

Time: 4 Episodes of Z: The Beginning of Everything (to make 4)
Cost: $20 for fabric and polyfill
Festive level: a solid 7

Fold the fabric in half length wise. Fold again width wise. Cut the along the width fold. From there, fold each piece in half again width wide and cut again. You’ll have a total of 8 squares, but it’ll look like 4 because they’re doubled.

Using the permanent marker draw your shape. I started by rounding out the corners of the square then adding a one or two imperfections.

Cut the shape out INSIDE of the line – we’re going to be sewing with the seam on the outside so you want to keep it as clean as possible.

For the yolk, I used an IKEA Muscot flower pot for the perfect size circle but you can use something like a large coffee mug or appetizer plate. Use the permanent marker to outline the circle and then cut INSIDE of the line. You’ll only need one of these.

Get ready to pin you guys… and I’m not talking pinterest.

Place the yolk in the spot you want it (I went for different placements on each pillow) and pin it in place with the pins pointing toward the center of the circle. Sew with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Pin egg whites together in the same manner with the right sides OUT – with pins pointing inward. Make sure to leave about 2 inches open for stuffing. Sew together with a 1/4 inch seam allowance and don’t forget to leave space to insert stuffing.

Stuff your eggs! I stuffed mine to a medium firmness. Too firm and you’ll have problems sewing the hole closed and too soft won’t be enjoyable.

Pin the hole closed and sew in the same manner.

Trim edges and display on your couch or bed or whatever might need pillows really!
