Is it fall yet? Because I am ready. In the coming weeks I’ll be pulling out my yarn stash and start blogging about scarves and hats and other warm things and I could not be more excited. I’m also starting to pull out all of my geeky fall items (most of which are Doctor Who and/or Harry Potter themed). This DIY Embroidered Doctor Who Blanket is a product of inner Whovian coming out and I must say, it gives me the warm fuzzies…. inside and out!

Also can we talk about the ridiculous amount of Jammie Dodgers I ate while making this? If you’re not a whovian you probably won’t understand, but these cookies are a self destruct button for the TARDIS… well, not really. But they’re great for fooling Daleks and buying more time and just happen to be a delicious cookie! I’m so glad that I can get these at my local Cost Plus World Market because they also make really great gifts and party favors to my geeky friends.

This  Doctor Who Blanket is a bit longer than my other projects (a couple of hours max), but it’s really impressive. All of your friends will be jealous that you made your own blanket(-ish). These also make really great and impactful gifts.

Time: 6+ hours (depending on length of quote)

1. Lay out your blanket flat and find the center. Grampa the cat decided to help me here (re: not really)

2. Using your ruler and chalk, draw out 5-6 lines for your blanket.

3. Write out your quote with chalk. Once you’re happy with it, go back over the quote with your sharpie or marker.

4. Thread your yarn and tie the ends together in a knot and place your starting section in the embroidery hoop. You want the fabric to be tight in the hoop so it’s easier for you to get even stitches and work quicker.

5. Starting at the beginning or end of each line, split stitch each letter. Tie off and replace yarn as needed.

6. Keep stitching until you’ve reached the end of your project and clean up the back by cutting off excess yarn.

** If you must wash your project, was on cold/gentle and hang to dry. DO NOT put it in the dryer. Like… ever.

7. Watch some Doctor Who, eat Jammie Dodgers and get all cozy.

One of my favourite Who quotes (though I do have a long list of favourites!)
We are lucky as here in the UK Jammy Dodgers are available in pretty much every supermarket and corner shop! They are the best (except maybe chocolate digestives) We even get them for lunch boxes which has 4 mini ones in a cute little packet!
Your blanket is fab btw 🙂
