Do you guys ever feel like you’re just spinning your wheels? Like one step forward, two steps back kinda thing? Yep. Right there with you. I’ve been trying to take a step back and get things into perspective lately. Learning what “self care” means and what it actually means for me.

One of the things I’ve started doing is crafting just to create. For no other reason than the joy of it. I know you are all going to be flabbergasted, but I have been buying  craft kits and making all sorts of things like bunnies, macrame, scarves... etc. It has helped bring the joy of crafting back because I’m not stressed about taking photos, or being “original”, I just do.  What are you doing for self care?

These Ombre Rose Cork Coasters came out of one of those creative spurts. I was looking at supplies I had on hand and was watching the classic Beauty and the Beast and just felt like creating. I figured it might be something you all would like to try, so I repeated the project, took some photos and VOILA! All yours! Get in the zone with your bad self while you cut out tiny pieces of cork board while listening to some Gaslight Anthem… or maybe that’s just me.

Sometimes a Jammie Dodger is just a cookie… but sometimes its a TARDIS self destruct button. Usually though, its just a cookie and a ploy to make Daleks believe its a self destruct button. Yep. Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey stuff. Shout out to all of my Doctor Who, Torchwood, Adventures of Sarah Jane, and Class fans. This Jammie Dodgers recipe is for you!

Okay, so flash back a few years. I had just met my dear friend Natalie (who makes awesome jewelry! Check it out) and she was having her 30th birthday party. I had NO CLUE what I was walking into but I ended up finding my tribe… or one of them. You see, Natalie and all of her friends were Doctor Who fans and well, so did I and that was the start to a beautiful geeky friendship. Isn’t it kind of amazing how you find your people when you’re least expecting to?

If you’re unfamiliar with Doctor Who… well that could take a while to explain so I’m just going to direct you to Amazon Prime where you can stream it all to your hearts content. Start with BLINK then go back. Trust me on this one.

Okay, show of hands… who has been downright obsessed with the Nintendo Switch lately? If you raised your hand, you’re not the only one. The last few days have been spent in this weird pizza and wine fueled haze of Zelda: Breath of the Wild  and too few hours of sleep in between craft projects and work. I feel like I’m back in college discovering Kingdom Hearts and not coming out of my dorm room for days. You guys!!! I have regressed! Is there a support group for this? I’m sure it’ll wear off right? Right?

Okay, so video game playing aside I’m working on getting in to
uch with the side of me that says… “I don’t care what everyone thinks, if I like it, I’m gonna wear it!” That side coupled with my “Hey I can do that for cheaper” side has resulted in this really awesome geek chic perler bead statement necklace. Pretty cool right? Even better, it was basically free using products I already had on hand from other projects. Don’t worry though, start up costs are minimal and super rewarding. Especially if you have a class full of 6-12 year olds that you have to keep quiet and busy and don’t have a Disney movie handy.

Celebrate Disney's Beauty and the Beast and add a little charm to your glass with these Disneymoji DIY Disney Wine Charms!

Everyone has their princess. Mine was Belle. I loved her. I wanted to be her. She was straight up magical. I think I connected with her most because she didn’t really have any friends. She was weird. She liked books. Because apparently being a bookworm is bad… but I digress. Belle was my princess. So when Disney announced that they were making a live action Beauty and the Beast? I pretty much lost it in my excitement. There was a gasp and flailing. Seriously guys! Anyhoo… now that I’m older I get to enjoy the magic all over again with my fave gal pals. But this time, we’re having wine! (please read that in a cool movie announcer voice)

I created these Beauty and the Beast Wine Charms based on the Disney Emojis and I gotta say… I’m in love! So grab your 25th Anniversary Edition DVD, your chosen beverage and some supplies. We’re gonna make something fun!

Stamped PacMan DIY Gift Bag

on December 13, 2016

Gift wrapping is serious business. Well sometimes. I waffle between shoving it in a bag and calling it a day, or actually making an effort. Anyone else feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all? Like… if I make this thing look ridiculously pretty, where is it setting the bar? Do I have to live up to that every year? Sheesh! The holiday pressure guys!

Gear up for some arcade themed fun with this Stamped PacMan DIY Gift Bag. A fun project to give as a gift or to hold all of your loot!

Okay, so yes, this tutorial is going to teach you how to stamp up a gift bag, but it’s really cute and great for group gifts where you feel like you actually have to put in effort (you know what I’m talking about). Fill them with some fun gamed themed mini-gifts, your favorite chapstick and lotion and you’re good to go.  My favorite thing about this Stamped PacMan DIY Gift Bag is the really simple perler bead gift tag you can make for an extra wow factor.

So follow the power pellets, grab the cherries and let’s stamp some ghosties!

Does anyone else have a pillow that they take everywhere? I do. Well… not a pillow per se, but a pillow pal. Yep. I’ve got one and I have no shame. Hogwarts House Crochet Ear Warmer

on October 24, 2016

As the weather cools down out come my yarn stash….

When I moved to Los Angeles I packed up my car. If it didn’t fit, it didn’t come with me. What did fit was an entire suitcase full of… yep, you guessed it. YARN. I learnt to crochet as a kid and it’s been one of my favorite ways to make handmade gifts as well as to calm down after a crazy week. I’m pretty much in love with all yarn work and I honestly feel like it is something anyone can do in some way shape or form. This cinched Crochet Ear Warmer uses only 2 stitches  and is a wonderful beginner project just in time for the cooler weather.  Even better…. they’re in Hogwarts house colors so I’m super excited to wear these babies all around Universal Studios this winter and feel like a real Hogwarts alumni!

Potato Stamp Matilda Wormwood Hoodie

on October 17, 2016

When most kids were having their “go outside and run around the neighborhood” phase, I was in my “stay inside and read a book” phase. Yes folks, I was not the most active of children. Does that surprise you? It shouldn’t. But before you start worrying about my health just know that I was at dance class a lot. Like 3-4 nights a week a lot. I just wasn’t a big fan of being outside or sweating or things that go with that.

Okay, so that stay inside and read a book phase…. I liked to read a lot. I remember staying up all night to finish books and somehow making it up in time to go to school or church the next day. I still do that in fact. I fell in love with the character of Matilda Wormwood who shared a love of reading and learning. Matilda was magical, mysterious and overall amazing.  So of course while I was creating a hoodie based on another Roald Dahl work, I felt like I needed to honor Matilda in the same way.

Felicity Fox Hoodie

on October 13, 2016

If you tuned in earlier this week, you would have read several sentences extholling my love for one Felicity Fox, because yes, she is a badass.

I was at the thrift store last week and found this amazing golden hoodie that was just SCREAMING to be turned into something, and as I was planning on continuing with the fox theme anyway so….. I bought it and turned it into this super fun Felicity Fox inspired apple print hoodie!

Create your own Felicity Fox inspired hoodie just in time for fall and Halloween!

Yes, you heard me, apple print. What is it with me using food as stamps? Well, for one thing, its cheap. I don’t want to pay $12+ for a stamp that I can make with a 50¢ apple AND get a snack out of it. (I ate the unpainted half). Want to make one in time for halloween or just to have a conversation starter?

Time: 1 hour + dry time
Cost: $15+ (depending on cost of hoodie)

DIY No Sew Fox Ears Headband

on October 10, 2016

You guys, for some reason I’m in love with foxes this week. Honestly, fall means orange and fuzzy and stealing yummy treats from my friend’s kitchens, which basically means fall = foxes. Right? Maybe?

Okay, so the real reason I made these ears is because I found myself watching The Fantastic Mr. Fox a few nights ago and pretty much fell in love with Felicity Fox. Let’s be honest here even though Mr. Fox tries to run the show, Felicity is there to reign him in and basically be the voice of reason for the entire fiasco.
